Over a wet and blustery weekend, Derwent produced a great set of performances throughout the club. Here's a quick run down of the reports from over the weekend:
We Start with Derwent M1. Facing a very good side in the shape of Trent University, M1 put in their best display of the season, and dug deep to win 2:1. Goals from Jeff Longden and Tom Higton, secured all 3 points. A clear sign of how well they played was from the post match comments from coach Jon Barry. There was not a single complaint and he was enthused by everyone's performance! Standards have been set!

Derwent M2 faced a very long trip to Market Harborough, and someone will be facing an even longer trip as they go to reclaim their hoody and stick they left behind. Goals from Steve 'RB' Langrick and Iain Mainwaring saw M2 secure the points, but all credit to Market Harborough as they pushed Derwent all the way. The win moves Derwent towards a top half position, with a shot at the promotion slots a distinct possibility.
Another side on the road were Derwent M3. By all accounts this one was a bit tetchy, with Derwent reduced to 9 men at one point. However, despite the wind and rain M3 saw the game through with a 1:0 victory, with Dan Swann scoring the vital goal. The win moves M3 up to 4th place, but only a point off 2nd. They face a crunch game on Saturday against 3rd placed Ashby.
The juggernaut which is Derwent M4 promptly rolled up at Ashbourne and promptly left with a wagon load of goals and another three points. The win against Burton sees M4 into 2nd. According to captain John Beardsley, goals came from everywhere and everyone. (Although I think they were playing with more than 6 players... we'll let him off!) This sets up a top of the table clash with undefeated Loughborough Town in the battle for the only promotion spot.
In the earliest start of the day, and probably the earliest time Henry has ever seen on a Saturday, Derwent M5 took the short trip up the road to Buxton. With a team featuring 3 senior and 8 junior players it took a bit of time to settle and the game was even at half time. However, M5 clicked through the gears bagging a goal almost from the start, through full match debutant Laurence Bostock. Heath Roberts grabbed one for a corner, whilst James Wildgoose smashed home in over time.
And to round off the Saturday games was Derwent M6. In this ding dong game, which ebbed and flowed as much as the water in Liam Frazer's glove, Derby won through 4:3. With the game never being seperated by more than one goal. Captain Gavin Simmons welcomed back Simon Bartlett who made his first game of the season. And it's only a matter of time before M6 grab their next win.
On Sunday Derwent Masters entertained Worcester, and put in an impressive display winning 8:1. But not as impressive as Worcester who obviously loved the post match teas and the hosipitality at the Bowling Green. So much so there are rumours they can still be found there.
Jeff Longden bagged a mightly impressive four, with Steve Langrick one behind gaining his hat-trick and Nick Prior rounded off the scoring with backhand shot.
The senior players (old gits) look forward to hearing who they will face in Rd 3 of the England Hockey Cup.
