Match Report

Derwent Seconds travelled to Buxton this week for the last of their preseason friendlies, writes Stephen King.

Before we get in to the details of the game, this reporter has to confirm that former second team captain Connor O'Sullivan (otherwise known as "Fighty Barbie") has now left the club due to his moving back down South.

It was a privilege to have played with Connor over the last few years, and the team wish him well for all his future ambitions.

We can now announce that James Boland has now been voted in as the new second team captain.

At the start of the game things did not look good with multiple players out injured. Derwent were forced to start with only 9 players, and one of these recovering from a broken finger.

Derwent were dealt another early blow as Buxton took an early lead after only five minutes play.

Derwent showed good character and resolve with stand out performances from Dave "Wimple Ireland" McGrillen and Andy McKeown soring all 6 goals between them.

The goal of the day scored by McKeown was started from the Derwent 25 yard line worked around the back and through just about all nine playes in a slick pass and move combination, before being fired home by on form McKeown.

There were no poor perfomances from the Derwent team to report this week, although off the pitch, Mr McGrillen may need to take care to read the location of the pitch more carefully next week in case of getting lost!

Next week will see the arrival of Ashby for the first league game.
