Match Report | Once upon a time (sometime earlier today) the 2nd team travelled away to put the sword back in the Stone this afteroon eager to get on with the pre-season friendlies. Bolstered by some members of the third team to fill the places of our absent students, obviously still stuck at Hogwarts! you could be forgiven for anticipating a torrid time for the away side. It was the Derwent side that was to have the first real goal scoring opportunity, with Steve Langrick forcing a fine double save from the Stone keeper. Derwent had to work hard to try and prevent the Stone Midfield from dominating, Simon Taylor and Connor O'Sullivan as well as the afore mentioned Langrick working tirelessly. The Defence of Greg Lloyd, Max "Harry Potter" Morris, Harry Brerreton, Steve King and Keeper Ed Berry were to be stretched to breaking point today, Man of the match Ed Berry was called upon to perform some heroic saves far too often. Stone broke the deadlock while Greg Lloyd was busy calling the boys in blue, as he had his pocket picked in front of goal. "I knew he was there as I had just taken the ball off him, I just waited too long ...." Greg said after the game. The Stone player regained control of the ball and left Ed Berry no chance as he fired home from two yards. The second Stone goal came from the Penalty spot as Steve King had made a save on the line unfortunately using his foot rather than stick. The resulting flick was clinically despatched just inside Ed Berry's right post. Derwent regrouped and managed to win a penalty corner, which resulted in a fine breakaway goal ... for Stone. The Stone Defence quickly regaining control of the ball after a somewhat errant drag out caught Harry off balance. Four touches and about 30 seconds later Derwent Keeper Berry was picking the ball back out of the net. Derwent heads at this point really started to drop with players attempting to dribble around the Stone players rather than demonstrating the proven pass and move system. This invariably resulted in Stone turning the ball over and acheiving a shot on goal, hence the large score line. Pass and move, Pass and move it boys or it we could well be better off playing Quidich.
