Match Report

People will ask in the future 'where were you?' on the day that three Derwent Teams won all their games 5 - 0 and the other won 3 - 0. The answer will be either on a cold pitch near Mansfield with barely distinguishable marking and a grumpy opposition centre half or at home. For in the Thirds, it was the former.

Only our second clean sheet this season (no reflection on your abilities Sam ) since ...erm... Mansfield saw us maintain fourth position in the league.

As in now a customary game plan we lulled the opposition into false sense of security by allowing them to get short corners, run past us and hit the post. Once we got this out of our system the playing hockey bagan with 'Mr Furious' Alex Merrick (paradoxically MOTM and DOD) finishing a move with a close range reverse stick finish. A bit later more hockey playing led to a second goal - Pooley Senior finishing on the left.

Evan Connell's introduction led to some excellent wing play and a deserved shared MOTM with Mr Furious.

Second half and the Captain's ploy of winning the toss so it's slightly less windy for us comes into the accendancy. Derwent wake and put together three sweeping moves across the pitch that we really should be doing more often. Two goals for Tom Leech, the second from that narrow angle on the right that he has a nack for, and a first of the season for Josh Simmons. Josh's being reminisent of Carlos Alberto's fourth for Brazil agianst Italy in 1970 albeit on the other side. This techincally makes Tom Leech Jarziniho.

Laughter ensued when their 51 went off cos he was grumpy, Josh wanting to go off cos he was angry with the 51, Harry celebrating a shot at goal that was off target, a rare Chris Rogers mistake and Josh watching the ball go very slowly across an open goal after it had hit the post when scoring would have been easier.

Nice win. Road works to the pub after broke the team up more effectiviely than any Mansfield attack. NIce food. Ben got his award at last.
