Match Report

Opening league game defeat for Derwent.

Derwent were on the back foot immediately from a strong Derby side that featured familiar players from Rolls Royce and Derby Asterdale. Twenty minutes of being under the cosh saw Derwent make tactical change pulling Alex Talbot into midfield with Ben Morton and Chris Pooley to counter the threat down the middle. This led to a series of Derwent counter attacks when eventually a strong ball into the D from the right from Tom Leech was met on the goal line for Sam Pooley to open the scoring.

The second half opened with a key moment, Tom Leech unluckily having a shot saved at close range by the Derby keeper. As the half wore on, the Derwent midfield wore out as Derby pressed forword again. Their break through came with three quick goals putting them into the ascendency. A quick reorganisation saw a new striker up front but by this time the damage was done.
