Match Report

It proved to be very tight game at Arden, with the home team having much of the first half possession, but really struggling to penetrate the Derwent defence of promoted keeper and man of the match Sam Steele, promoted Harry Brereton, Tom Higton, Luke Beckett and Steve King.

Arden took the lead about half way into the first period of play as a shot going wide took an unlucky deflection off the heel of keeper Steele's kicker and crept in the corner of the goal.

Sam did not let this affect him, and went on to make numerous crucial saves, the pick of the bunch a terrific dive and strong right hand deflecting ball to safety rather than our top right hand corner of the goal.

The second half continued in much the same fashion, but Derwent were finally able to link a few passes together and following some great work by Langrick, Lloyd, McGrillen and Mckeown, Ollie Rhodes was in the right place at the right time to tap the ball in at the far stick bringing the scores level.

Arden went on to score the winner with about ten minutes left on the clock and Derwent left back Brereton injured on the floor, the Derwent defence found themselves outnumbered, the Arden forward, soon found himself one on one with the keeper. The lay off for the following up forward took Steele out of the game and allowed Arden their tap in.

Tempers flared a little towards the end as Mckeown had a ball creamed at his behind, but all in all a very positive game with some key players missing who need to realise they are now going to have play very well just to get back in the squad.

Next week top of the league Chesterfield visit Wirksworth - watch this space to find out if Derwent can spoil their party.
