Match Report

Derwent were looking to emulate there previous weeks performance, unfortunately the score line was the only close comparison.

Leicester Westleigh looked the more likely to score throughout the first half winning penalty corner after penalty corner and with the Derwent defence of King, Beckett, Williams and Lloyd put under serious pressure it was down to man of the match Ed Berry and some wayward shooting from the Westleigh forwards that kept the Derwent clean sheet at half time.

Midway through the first half Steve Langrick punished Westleigh in the best way retaining his team top goal scorer mantle by following up on a Mckeown effort to finish clinically from close range.

In the second half Westleigh pressed and pressed, but Langrick and Mckeown always looked dangerous on the counterattack and once Taylor and Dave Mcgrillen were able to get involved in the middle assisted by Callum it was Mckeown that appeared to seal the match from open play.

Mcgrillen also had a clear goal scoring opportunity as he stole in around the back unmarked found with a killer pass from Taylor, only to miss the ball altogether as he attempted to finish.

Westleigh finally managed to convert from one of their penalty corners in the final minute of the game with the ball fired in hard at the left post.

Yet again Derwent had a nervy few seconds at the end of the game, but managed to hold on to another victory keeping us on top of the league but for goal difference (Chesterfield looking good there).

Apologies to the Westleigh team, but we were unable to locate the pub for after match teas and ended up making do with fast food burgers from a well known fast food outlet.

Next week Derwent will be welcoming Wellingborough to Wirksworth.
