Match Report | The first league game of the season was packed with events. The pre match warmup including avoiding the sandstorm caused by the departing air ambulance from the ladies match. We hope the player invloved makes a speedy recovery. The Derwent team made a great start to the game after making a few tactical positional changes. Nash moving out to left back to replace the missing Greg Lloyd, and Sam and Alex working hard on the left wing. Man of the match Andy "Cabbage" in the middle of the park ran the show for the first 20 minutes freeing up Simon Taylor to rampage down the right with Luke Becket. Danny Hendrie fired home the first goal, and was swiftly followed by a Simon Taylor close range second goal at the far post. The pick of the goals came from the "Cabbage" a short corner that was clearly practiced and honed on the traing pitch (NOT). Stick stopper Steve "Shearer" King struggled to stop the pacy injection from Steve "Wizz" Langrick, but some clever stick work from SImon Taylor allowed the ball to fall to Cabbage who double flicked the ball in to the far left side netting of the goal. At three nill up Derwnt looked home and dry, but the opposition were still a constant threat with keeper Ed Berry pulling off some great saves to keep the clean sheet. Unfortunately reminiscent of a certain Bournemouth Keeper one of Steve King's 16yard restarts was passed straight to the South Notts centre forward who unwrapped his Christmas gift and slotted past Berry. South Notts now with their tails up moved their key player further in to midfield and Derwent lost control of the centre of the pitch allowing South Notts to ramp up the pressure. South Notts second goal came from open play calmly placed in the left corner past the dismayed Berry who finally realised that the goals were massivily out of line from the penatly spot. The South Notts final goal came from a short corner that was fired bottom left, Steve King had the post covered, but the ball hit a bobble in the pitch and bounced over his flat stick in to the goal. Derwent held out for the draw, feeling rather dejected to have let such a good lead go to waste. Steve King managed to dodge the D.O.D. award only due to Greg Lloyd admitting that the reason he did not arrive at Bingham was that he failed to read the whole of Captain Danny's text and went to the wrong pitch (Clifton)! |
